Ali Sowe signs a three years contract with CSKA Sofia

Ali Sowe signs a three years contract with CSKA Sofia

Gambian international Ali Sowe has permanently moved to the Bulgarian side Cska Sofia bringing an end to a nine loan spell. Ali, who was on contract with Chievo Verona till June 2019, made his loan move to a permanent deal with the Reds on Wednesday, 29th January 2019.

The former Gamtel talisman’s most successful loan was with an Albanian side Skënderbeu where he scored 21 goals in 33 league matches and ended up winning both the league and league cup in 2017/2018.

"I had very interested offers. All started in June. Offers from Saudi Arabia, Europe, Egypt and China. I felt it wasn't the right time to leave Europe. Chievo had their plans. They didn't come to terms with so many clubs from Europe, that's why I haven't moved in the summer.

With CSKA Sofia I feel more of home. They have shown interest in working with me. That's why I took this decision to start this adventure with them. That's what motivates me.

First half season didn't went as I wanted. I think I needed time more to be part of the group. To know how things are. I had just moved there, and things wouldn't just come easy.

This winter break has made me have bond with players and coaches”.

10 years challenge -Omar Jasseh Wattaman

10 years challenge -Omar Jasseh Wattaman

The last time I watch Wattaman was at the Serekunda East mini stadium, during a nawettan final bewteen Maccasa verus Medina FC. Wattaman’s introduction was marred with controversy, he believed that the Medina goalkeeper Toldo’s water bottle was having a juju . He waited till they had a corner kick and snatch away the bottle and throw it to the fans. Goals followed the next minutes and wattaman introduced himself to Maccasa and years that followed . Its long since Serekunda East saw the type of Wattamans Unique talent.

The name wattaman came from Juventus, “When i was a kid I do follow the team to Latrikunda primary school because I always wanted to be around them. During halftime I do bring water for them and that’s how the name came about”. Wattaman grew up admiring and idolizing Arthur Gomez, whose speed and taking on defenders were similar. He was also a big fan of Ous Jallow and Toubabo.

Wattaman has only played for his boyhood team Maccasa and went on to play divisional football with Samger FC . With Maccasa he won league cups, knockout cups and super cups both as a player and a captain. He played for Samger FC from third division to their promotion to the elite league , they finished second and wattaman would go on to represent the Gambia U17. He played for the U17 that qualified for South Africa but a muscle injury made his stint with the U20 setup short.

Wattaman’s memorable games include Maccasa v Leeds, they needed a win and he assisted the winning goal with a back heel pass. Another game was between Brikama v Serekunda East, Zonals championship. They drew Banjul and needed a win and people thought it was impossible. During the last 25 minutes Wattaman created three goals, the fullback marking him would later be named Wattaman. Winning the zonals came with a price , he faced one of  the best Bakau zonal teams featuring Demba Sanyang, Daddy Gai , Bierhoff just to name a few. Wattaman was among those who dominated the game.

A dream of the Premier League or Championship wouldn’t be ruled out for a young man from Latrikunda. One thing that hunt him in UK was the work permit. Wattaman disclosed that all the clubs he trained with offered him contracts. Leeds united where he met Mancity Danny Rose and Fabian Delph  , at Crystal palace he trained together with Wilfred Zaha and Clyne.

Premier league failures didn’t stop wattaman from knocking on the doors of USA. After his first stint with Toronoto, Wattaman travelled to Germany, Sweden, Turkey and Finland. In bewteen all these, he went back to play for Maccasa and the Serekunda east zonal team in 2009. Deep down in me, I think Wattaman was robbed of a life time opportunity to join the likes of Tony Yeboah, Kanu , Okocha and Adebayor.  However, Wattaman would later become the youngest Gambian ever to be drafted in the MLS when he signed for San Jose Earthquake.

Wattaman was a star, the hype was around him, he was a gifted player , pacy and can take on any full-back on his best days. Yaya Bajo said “Wattaman can decide a game, thats where he think players are different , because he could recall wattaman single handedly won games. Gareth Bale and Modric , De Bryune were few players that saw a great talent in Wattaman and thought the Samger boy could have been the next big star.

Bad and greedy agents have caused lots of damages in Wattaman’s carrier, he’s been everywhere. He described some of the agents he had encountered as greedy. “I was talented and could do anything on the field, most thought I would play for Barcelona or other big teams”. Norway’s Molde wanted to Signed Wattaman , agents came from Belgium and Denmark but the deal never went through.

Jakaria Bah couldn’t agree better on what Wattaman went through he recalled between 2002- 2011. The gambia had a great pool of talents. The likes of Bura Culture, Sheriff Samba(Gamtel). He continued to say the gambia haven’t produced those calibre of players, that generation were matured. Zakaria concluded that the Gambia still haven’t produced the breed of Wattaman’s calibre, because Wattaman and the Nyassi brothers were pacy.

Wattaman is not giving up on his dreams, “Am working hard, if i play they will recognize my talent. I was badly managed, didn’t get much help and I believe in God and am confident he will pay me the price of the patience I endured. I didn’t lose my path and thankful enough I retain my health. Lots of people believe in me and am chasing my dreams”.

Wattaman is not blaming anybody” when I used to come to the park before, I used  to come with six people but now am lonely. I left the Gambia in 2006 because of football. Gambians know me because of football . Am a fighter , am independent and have a good heart, there will surely be a way out. Am working with people who trust me.

Ousman Jallow , lamin Touray ( Mola), Mal Ceesay and Omar Buhar are the few people Wattaman is grateful to. He recalled and testified that both Ous Jallow and Mola didn’t mind if wattaman is playing or not they supported me. Ous Jallow paid a call when wattaman came to Turkey and gave Saviola €1000. He said Omar Buhar is one of the nicest persons he ever came across. He described him as a man who played  different roles in difficult paths. Mal ceesay opened the gateway for Finland, when Wattaman was in Sweden , he invited him in their club and was later given a contract.

Finally on our ten years challenge, Wattaman weighs on Gambia’s football crises” football should be run by those who played it and our ex-players have a plight to it, Ebou Sillah, Pa Dembo Touray and the rest. Football is about who you know and these players have played for ten years  or more and look at their former players they are the ones coaching now.  They don’t want to be presidents: some can be ambassadors. I once came across a picture of Kaba Bajo and Jay Jay Okocha, its because the status Jay Jay have in football. The federation need the ex players , because such calibre will only change the philosophy. None in the federation has resigned ,  its merry go round, same old faces.

Four stars Atalanta triumph against Roma as Ebrima Colley scores again

Four stars Atalanta triumph against Roma as Ebrima Colley scores again

The match winner against Empoli, Ebrima Colley was once again on the scoresheet for the Atalanta Primavera team in their TIM cup win against Roma. Colley's goal came in a crucial moment as league leaders were 1-0 courtesy of Swedish Kulusevski. The 18 years former BrommaPojkar midfielder who made his debut against Fronsonie exchanged one touch pass with the Gambian international and Colley got the better when he chipped ball pass the goalkeeper to beat him at far post in the 62nd minutes. Two more goals followed to make it 4-0. Roma and inter Milan are the only teams to beat Atalanta this season.

"Kulusevski is a good and complete player. His promotion to the A team is based on merit, it is well deserved. He has always dreamt of it. It's every young player’s dream to be promoted to the A team. We are happy for him. He will pave way for those born in 2000 or 2001. If you paid attention today he came to play with the reserved team, he is our age mate but he has a special quality. His promotion is a motivation and we are really motivated. If you look at it deeply even, Musa Barrow passed through this path. It just pushes me to work hard."

Colley continued “yes indeed after the Empoli's game I did emphasise about scoring. Nowadays football is all about scoring. The more you score the more you have motivation. The coach has faith in me. In the first half of the season, I was having difficulties with injuries.Scoring is part of me. I like scoring. Every player should strive to score goals. When I don't score, I feel sad.

Gasperini did invite me to train with the A team but nothing special"

Yankuba Jarju ends goal drought and credits new coach Bruno IRLES

Yankuba Jarju ends goal drought and credits new coach Bruno IRLES

Gambian prolific goalscorer Yankuba Torress Jarju ended his goal drought with Pau FC, as he scored a brace against US Avranches MSM,
his first in 16 league matches.

The Pirang born who is the highest goalscorer record holder with both Real de Banjul and Generationfoot, lost his majoo in the first half of the season. Pau FC new project didn't Kick off brightly despite a new stadium and new signings. In the coupe de league, the Gambia U20 striker has scored five goals in seven matches.

The rejuvenated striker is well-known among football fans in the Gambia. Back in 2016/17he scored 16 goals with Real de Banjul in the league before joining GenerationFoot where he scored 11 league goals and won the coupe de Senegal.

One thing for sure is Stade du Hameau will see a different beast henceforth. Torress competed the first three league matches before turning to be an unpopular striker for ex coach Raffaele NOVELLI. He started six matches including match day 19 and came from the bench on ten occasions. Pau FC currently occupies 10th position in the league table and have a game in hand.

"Alhamdulillah X3, indeed things were difficult in the beginning. Both the style and formation the previous coach used didn't suit me. Language barrier came in between us too. He neither speaks English nor his assistants. Nothing was moving.

With Bruno IRLES he speaks English, go through details. The run, the style of play. I can't fault Raffaele NOVELLI for my goal drought. But he contributed, I lost my confidence and limited chances were given to me. All that contributed to the lateness of the goals.

One thing for sure is goals will come, I have endured patience and now I will capitalise.

Now am given the chance to prove myself. The new coach's approach is superb. The pre match talks and the encouragement all give me the confidence that he can bring the best out of me.

Am extremely happy, first two goals in the league. I have sensed pressure from the coach and even when I come in, he just brought me in for the sake of it. He wasn't having confidence in me. There is a big change now and hope it continues."

These goals are dedicated to Willy Abraham, he has me in heart. Even when I don't score, he encourages me. He is so concerned about me. He is patience with me too."

Buba Sanneh -Even the best gets criticized, Kara Mbodj a competitor, not a rival

Buba Sanneh "Even the best gets criticized, Kara Mbodj a competitor, not a rival"

Former Midtjylland and Gambia rocky defender have come under intense pressure from the Mauves fans and some section of Belgium press. Bubacarr Sanneh was unveiled at the RSCA Constant Vanden Stock Stadium with a record fee of €8 in august.

The defender lost his place in the starting XI in the end of November last year, after having a bright start. Buba tweeted," Hard work continues and looking forward to a successful year ahead with Anderlecht."

The former Real de Banjul defender didn't shy away from the echoes of fans and had told La Derniere Heure" I respect their attitude, even the best ones get criticism, but I don't feel pressured, the club brought me because they see something in me. That's football I constantly have to focus on the next match, the level in Belgium is much higher than in Denmark and I have to get used to that.

The January winter camp saw Anderlecht travelled to Spain for training camp. They played two matches and the Senegambia duo replaced each other. Buba Sanneh, who has become regular with the national team of the Gambia, said " I don't feel pressure in the return of Kara to the club, because competition makes everyone better. I think we can form a good partnership, but it's coach Fred Rutten decision to decide that."

Happy birthday Gira Joof

Happy birthday to EboTown #9

On this beautiful Sunday, I am joining all and sundry fans around the world to wish Gira Joof a happy birthday. A life full of Joy and a great carrier ahead. The forward player's alma mater is Unicorns and Fortune United. He was among the batch that qualified fortune to the second division by scoring five goals in nine games. In his first ever zonals tournament , he scored four goals for the Serekunda West team before bowing out to Serekunda East. It's on record that he scored against Manjai, BEM, Serekunda central & Lamin.

Gira Joof who is a great fan of Ronaldo de Lima, played professionally in Israel and had a fine stay with Bnei Yehude, whom he won the FA cup champions together with.

In their Youth team, U19 he scored 11 goals in 18 games while scoring five goals in four FA cup games. He became the youngest Gambian ever to play in the Europa league qualifiers. Gira who has pace and speed, is late to come to the national team's sight. however, he scored the only goal for the Gambia U23 team in their match against Morroco. Gira grew up admiring the style of play and determination of Ous Jallow and Zico.

It could be recalled that we have been following Gira's development for the past two years and the youngster is very much determined to succeed. The future is bright for Gambian football.

Football & Nicknames Pa Modou Bah alias Pablo Aimar

Football & Nicknames
Pa Modou Bah alias Pablo Aimar

Only few were fortunate to have the original replica of football jersey but something that was common was the nickname during our childhood days. Some were call Evra, Nesta, Klinsmann, Inzaghi, Aimar, Cech.

Aimar moved from Bakau to Lamin, a shy boy wouldn't take time to settle in Lamin. Because football has a beautiful language. From school Aimar do head to the football field to do what he loves. Boys among his ages spotted the jersey he always wear, Number 21 written Aimar. He is call Aimar till today.

Born Champion.

Lamin might be struggling in recent time zonals, but that beautiful history of joy still lingers in the Heart of Aimar back in 2011 where they beat Sukuta 2-0. He played along with Omar Colley, Hamang Conteh, Solomon King, and Bakary Bunja.

Coupe de la league 2015/2016 Diambars

He guided Diambars to the final and eventually beat Dakar Sacred in the extra time after losing 1-0 two years ago against Guédiawaye FC.

Brikama United

Aimar joined Brikama United in the second round of 2011/2012 season from Lamin United, and he scored seven goals in nine matches.

From there he went on to earn his first cap for the Gambia under coach Lamin Sarr for the U20. They went on to lose away in Rabat by 4-0 & were beaten by Senegal in a friendly.

My gratitude goes to my family who stood by me in joyous and trying moments. I will also appreciate the relationship that I have built with Gambia youth coach Omar Ceesay. He has worked a lot for my progress behind the scenes.

Aimar didn't play school team football, simply because his daddy wanted him to concentrate on his academics. Growing up near the stadium had a good effect on him. He was always there during the weekends. As a matter of fact, Sait Matty used to camp in their home during the days of Pa Dembo Touray.

Role Model

The former Jatta's and Lamin nawettan treble golden shoe winner, is an admirer of Ousman Jallow who happens to grow in the same area as Aimar. And for Aimar, it's just pure joy for him to watch Ous Jallow. He is moved by the former Brondby and U17 striker's charisma and has been a good role model for him.

Aimar has a good speed and got sharp eyes for goals. A fallout with the coach last season saw Aimar featured for few games where he scored two league cup and five league goals. In seven cup games for Chittagong Abohani FC, he has scored five goals and hoping to replicate that in the league.

Top Guns after Gambia’s number one Alagie Jobe

Top Guns after Gambia’s number one Alagie Jobe

Gambian international goalkeeper Modou Jobe is making a name for himself in the Nigeria professional football league just after one season with El Kanemi Warriors.

He will be among the top transfer target in the coming window. Several clubs are currently lined up for his signature after last season, with Eymiba International and Kastina Utd leading the charges. He lamented such attention has boasted his morals and is a big achievement and a feat that will make him push hard.

With the league kicking off few days' time, the ex Niary Tally goalkeeper said preparation and preseason went fine. He has recovered from a foot injury and ready for the new challenge.

Warriors will take on Akwa United on matchday one. Coach Mohammed Babaganaru’s target is to take the Maiduguri base club to either CAF champions league or confederation cup. First thing that the former Kano Pillars and Wikki did after been presented was to make a phone call to the Gambian international to confirm whether the news that the papers are carrying is true. Toldo made it clear that if teams like Lobi Stars, Eymiba and Kano Pillars come calling you don’t say no. Baba told the Gambian goalie” you can change any position except the goalkeeper. Am counting on you, and your experience is needed.”

Modou Jobe said the new coach is kind, gentle and poses good experience but he is not ruling out a potential move. He concluded that despite being distracted with the rumor, he is still committed to his contract. Its understood that El Kanemi has rejected Enyimba lastest offer

Solomon Kanform I want to be better than last season

Solomon Kanform " I want to be better than last season"

ThePoint- We less than two weeks before the league kick-off, How prepared are you?

Solomon- We very prepared as a group and we are in high gear. Individually I am up to the task, because am the captain of the team. Anything less than what I achieved last season, means it's a failure.

ThePoint- Take us back to the previous season statistics, How was your performance?

Solomon - It was a collective effort, much credit goes to my teammates. It was a good season. We lost the title in the run in. I scored 15 league goals, four league cups and provided eight assists. I only didn't score against one club. Now the focus is shifted to what is ahead of us, and it means I have to work hard.

ThePoint - Football is full of tactics, don't you think other clubs would now have studied you or even try to nullify the threat you pose?

Solomon - That's obvious, everything about football is tactics. Teams do look out for each others strength and weakness. I think the coach has to help the player and the group. Most case it's difficult to totally limit a player strength or mobility.

ThePoint- Back to pre-season, it's very important for clubs, was Sheikh Jamal busy in the transfer window or travelled for a camp?

Solomon - We among the first team to return to pre-season. We almost sold three-third of our players. We quickly return to build a good chemistry among new players, because the strength of the team lies in the unity ie of the collectivness. The players that recently came in, I believe we can challenge for the league.

ThePoint- Bangladesh isn't sort of Gambian players and I mean unique Gambian players, how are they faring there?

Solomon - All aforementioned names are well known back in the Gambia and have contributed their quarter in the Gambia. Our talent isn't forgotten back home. Most will wonder why are we in Bangladesh, but circumstances led us here. Playing in a league doesn't mean your standard suits the same league. Players like Landing Darboe , Momodou Bah (Aimar) are all well established players in their clubs.

ThePoint- Asian are football fanatics, follows the game so crazy, many would wonder why you kicked start your professional carrier in Bangladesh?

Solomon - Football is all about patience. It's destined that here is where the journey of greatness will start. I am here for a gateway. Therefore, they will see me where my target is. Am the same Solomon that they knew before, although am more matured now and am working extra hard.

ThePoint- Any national team dream?

Solomon - The Gambia belongs to all of us, whether called upon or not, Gambia first. Although it's utmost joy for a player to represent the colours of the national team and it's an honour. Football has no boundary. Everything has its own time. Maybe I don't suit the coach tactics. Am still patience, I believe I have a long way to go and once the opportunity is available I will do my out most best.

Liscr releases Haruna Jabang and Adama Sabally

Liscr released Haruna Jabang & Adam Sabally, Bully Drammeh & Mustapha Njie faces disciplinary charges...

The shipping boys couldn't use Gambian duo in the confederation cup match against USM Bel Abbes. Ron, who was in the radar of Armed Forces before joining Liscr, was suspended by CAF for breaking the rule of registering with two different clubs for the same competition. Coach Tapha Manneh lamented "it was a funny situation because I think most clubs in the Gambia are not fair to the boys and often no genuine advises are given to them".

Mustapha Njie , Bully Drammeh & Adama Sabally  all  played in the Caf Champions league preliminary round against Al Hilal and  all of them took part in the pre-season competition early 2018. The Quartet stay in Monrovia was marred by the country's general election and Liberia FA power shuffle. This caused delayance to the league kick-off.

The players spend the summer holiday in the Gambia and information that reached coach Tapha Manneh was some were training with other clubs. Liscr sent $970 for transportation for them to return. To the shipping boys disappointment only Haruna Jabang & Adama Sabally returned. Mustapha Njie ( Bombada Utd) & Bully Drammeh didn't report back  but are said to have received their fares.

Kartong born Haruna Jabang contract was terminated after unprofessional conduct. Coach Tapha Manneh advised the board to released both defenders so that they can play for a club of their choice.

The fate of Mustapha Njie & Bully Drammeh is hanging on the air. The recommendation of the board is let the duo pay the return fare or report back for duties before any decision is been taken
